I scrambled out of my crashed escape pod and stood on shaky legs; me
and three other survivors of the Aura Terminal have landed in a
temperate forest forest among a cluster of small mountains. I glance
at the personal butler on my wrist and see that, according to the
date log it was apparently the 6th of winter on whatever
planet we had landed on. Luckily it was only 10 degrees Celsius, a
little chilly with the wind, but the mountains blocked most of it.
I had been in ciro in what felt like only a couple hours, but in
reality had been 53 years, nine years more than I had actually been
alive. I wondered for a moment what had changed in the universe, but
realized it didn't matter now, because I was stuck on a planet, in
the middle of nowhere, with no visible signs of civilization anywhere
close by.
I notice I'm one of the older (physically) of the four of us; Bull
being (physically) older than me by only six years, and Omeed being
younger than me by seven years. The youngest of the four of us is a
15 year old Korean girl named Kim Min-Young, “Min” being her
stage name... Apparently she was some sort of teen pop idol back on
Terra over 700 years ago. Min seemed rather upset when we didn't know
who she was, and proceeded to sulk and mumble to her pets in Korean.
How she got a cat and a monkey down to this world is beyond me, I'm
guessing they were in ciro with her.
--
Min's apparent celebrity status from before she was in cirosleep
excuse her from doing any “dumb labour” she calls it, so no
cleaning or hauling. Those are are things she's too delicate for, her
words, not mine. She's not too delicate to construct steels walls at
least, so there's that...
We started by building some solar panels out of the scraps from the
escape pods and steel we mined out while digging into the side of one
of the mountains. We don't know what or who is living on this world,
so we figured digging ourselves a well-fortified cave was the best.
Unfortunately, Omeed stopped digging out where our rooms where meant
to be and started working on the battery room halfway through, so we
had to sleep outside and on the ground tonight. One night won't kill
us... well, it might kill the Pop Princess...
--
At some point in time the day before we lost Bull, apparently he had
found a clearing on the other side of the mountain and started to dig
through. I honestly thought he had gotten eaten by something. He
nearly made Omeed shart himself when he bust through the other side
of the wall he was digging. I heard a shriek echo out from depths of
the cavern, and at first thought it was Min... but nope... it was
Omeed. I wish I would have been there to see his face.
I also discovered that Bull planted a bunch of corn, potatoes and
healroot on the other side of the mountain, so that's really good,
now we just have to wall in the other side, and get some defences
up... last thing we need is someone raiding us from behind and
burning our crops.
Mining is taking a lot longer than originally thought... we had to
sleep outside on the ground again. At least Min and I did, Omeed and
Bull slept among the rocks and rubble of the cave. Frag we need to
build beds.
--
Bull ended up finding a natural room inside the cave today, which is
great because now work will hopefully go a lot faster. Unfortunately
we found that the natural room, also had a natural sky light, and
while that would be a welcome feature in a house (with a glass
ceiling), it's not exactly a good design choice for a colony on a
potentially hostile Rim World.
Maybe when we know for sure we won't die anytime soon.
We got some visitors from the Purple Hill People today, Omeed and I
were a little apprehensive when they first showed up. Out of nowhere
I might add. They said they wanted to trade, but when Min asked them
about it- I do have to hand it to the Pop Princess, she's pretty
diplomatic, I guess that comes from being the spot light for most of
her teen years- they didn't want anything we had to offer, we don't
have much in the way of anything. Barely enough for us to survive
much longer actually.
We're running low on food and medicine...
And still don't have bed I might add!
But I'm optimistic that things will start to pick up soon. We have
some plants growing and what we had originally planned halfway dug
out. Though, we really should have built beds today, my back is
starting to really hurt... I can't image what Bull must feel like.
Played some Horse Shoes with Min before bed today, the kid beat me by
a landslide. While we were playing, she insisted that the first room
we dug out be dedicated to research and crafting. She said it was so
we can figure out how to harness the power from the geyser that's
nearby, but I'm pretty sure she just wants Omeed to make her some new
clothes. Though, I can't argue against using the geyser being a good
idea.
--
Min woke me up borderline violently this morning, six in the morning
to be precise, yelling something about naming our colony. I can't
remember what she suggested, mostly because I was still half sleep
and she was flipping between English and Korean so quickly I couldn't
follow most of what she was saying. We eventually settled on Aura,
after the ship we all came from.
While working on the base we heard some angry squeaking from our
garden area, apparently our being their had angered a rat so much
that it decided to set out to kill all of us. I went out to kill the
thing before anyone got hurt...and ended up having the rodent sneak
attack me.
Min was nice enough to drop what she was doing and build me a bed so
I could rest and clean myself up. The damn furry demon actually
launched itself at my face, as well as tried to claw its way up both
my legs, probably to attack my face again.
I woke up a good five hours later to find that the room I was resting
in (a room that would later be turned into a prison cell once we got
a door built), was completely dug out and Min had finished walling in
the solar panels as well as built a sculpture table, not that I think
that's something we should really be worried about right now, but
making this place look prettier couldn't hurt for moral.
Unfortunately sleeping half the day away yesterday has seriously
messed up my sleep schedule... I ended up falling asleep outside a
couple hours later, and this time when we woke up we had a new person
in our camp, a 23 year old who goes by the name Blevins.
Must be her last name.
Yet another young person “incapable” of dumb labour. At least she
seems to like digging at rock an awful lot, hopefully that means
we'll get our colony dug out faster, though that does mean we need to
plan another bedroom.
Blevins actually helped get a lot of work done today, her and Min
walled in nearly the whole back section of the fort and the half the
area where the geyser was found, now we just need to figure out how
to use the steam power from it... I have a feeling that we're going
to need a better research station for that though.
--
The mood around camp is quickly dropping... crashing I think is a
better term. Everyone is tired of sleeping on the ground, and they're
tired of eating raw food. In an attempt to try to lift everyone's
moods, I suggested we all play Horse Shoes. That seemed to help for a
bit... that is, until some crazy chick with a club started attacking
Min's monkey.
Bull, Omeed and I dropped our horse shoes and ran through the base to
the back as quickly as we could. Followed behind us, despite not
having a weapon and it being very dangerous. She was
determined to try to save her monkey, it was too late though and by
the time we got there, Min's cat had been bludgeoned unconscious and
left for dead by the crazy shirtless woman with the club.
The woman had squeezed through a small that had been left unfinished
in the back wall and was heading for our crops! Omeed cut her off
quickly though, actually, it was a little scary how much joy he
seemed to get from repeatedly stabbing that woman.
Needless to say, she's dead now.
Omeed has a couple of bruises, but nothing serious... actually I
think his hunger might be cause him more pain than his head.
Min rescued her cat and its now resting in its spot in the crafting
room.
Min won't stop crying. She cred herself to sleep tonight. I think
there's going to be a lot more nights like this coming up, not just
for Min, but for everyone.
